Default Multi-tiered dye system

I think what would make the armor system much more dynamic would be a multi-tiered dye system. Essentially what I mean is allowing different parts of armor to be dyed different colours, instead of having only one way and one area in which dyes can be applied.

Some might recognize this concept from other games... I remember in Neverwinter Nights you could dye each armor according to the components that it had on it, so you might be able to dye Leather 1, Leather 2, and Cloth 1 for a particular armor different colours.

I can see this upgrade to the dye system having at least three obvious benefits:

1. Greater player customization
Options are great. In a game that doesn't allow for changes in body shape, race, or any number of other customization options offered by competing titles, another means to distinguish oneself from others (at least one as benign as this) should be a welcome change.

2. More viable dye options
Let's face it: not all dyes match all armors. The reason for this is often the part of the armor that is affected by the dye. Take Warrior's Shing Jea armor for instance - only the gold trim gets affected by dyes. Dying it blue (while some people do do this) leaves an awkward looking brown armor with blue trim. However, if you could dye the inside of the armor too then the blue trim might suddenly become an attractive option. You might opt to try a grey Sing Jea armor with blue trim, or some such combination... oh the possibilities!

3. More effective mixing of sets
Sometimes it's possible to envision how two different sets of armor might go nicely together. The leggings of Armor A and the chest region of Armor B could look good together... but alas, Armor A is Green with Gold trim, and Armor B is Grey with Red trim. Let's clarify this example to examine how a multi-tiered dye system would be of benefit:
Undyed: Armor A: Green/Gold - Armor B: Grey/Red
Dyed Red, Current System: Armor A: Red/Gold - Armor B: Grey/Red = Poor match
Dyed Red/Gold, Multi-tiered System: Armor A: Red/Gold - Armor B: Red/Gold = Perfect match!

Still can't picture it? I've composed some hypothetical screenshots to help you get a better idea of my vision. Mind you editing colours is kind of tedious and I'm kind of lazy, so no doubt a multi-tiered dye system from ArenaNet's side would look much better.

Undyed Warrior Kurzick Helm:

Warrior Kurzick Helm dyed with current system:

Warrior Kurzick Helm dyed inside (not currently possible):

Warrior Kurzick Helm dyed inside/outside (not currently possible:

Regardless of whether or not you think the colours above look any good, I hope you get the gist of the idea, and that you agree with me about the potential benefits it could bring to Guild Wars customization.

Let me know what you think!

Yes I already suggested that the secondary un-dyable parts should be made dyable via sending a mail to support and posted the idea in a dye thread, guess this thread is what we need to hopefully make it possible

Although this would probably not be retroactive (meaning old armors wouldn't benefit) it would be nice for new armor sets to be able to do this.

Yeah, I doubt that ArenaNet would implement such a system retroactively (since they seldom do so for new features: e.g. inscriptions), although it would be really amazing if they did (would breathe new life into those armors imho). However, I'd be more than pleased to see them just implement it in future chapters. I hope that it's something that we'll see, since ArenaNet has shown with Nightfall that they're not totally against improving the dye system.

I've unsigned other threads on it, but they really sucked at explaining it, e.g. dying the entire armor a set color.

Whether or not anet wants to implement this it should definately be brought to their attention

I was just saying how the old system was a better set of dye color options sheen wise, this is another badly needed change.
